I first heard of Katty Xiomara a year ago and I was very impressed with her designs. This year during New York Fashion Week I was very fortunate to attend the presentation of her Spring/Summer 2015 collection as part of Nolcha Fashion Week and finally get to see her clothing in person. My expectations going into the show were already high so I was expecting to be really impressed; when I left the show, I was more than impressed by the collection. What makes Nolcha Fashion Week stand out is that it is the place for independent fashion during New York Fashion Week. This was a great place to have Katty Xiomara’s latest collection showcased.
During the first half of the show, the pieces ranged from white to pastel colors; colors that look very flirty, relaxed and perfect for the Spring/Summer season. A lot of the dresses and shirts that the models wore seemed as if they were inspired by business suits and crisp white Oxford shirts and I really liked that because that’s something I would wear to work. Her long dresses flowed behind the models and were very feminine in shape and in color; the gasp coming from the people sitting next to me further confirmed that they were just stunning. My two favorite pieces had to be the light purple dress with the high slit up the leg and the striking red dress. The OtterBox dress was really the highlight of the show, at first I didn’t quite understand but once the model got close to me I saw that Katty creatively used OtterBox’s Alpha Glass, which is a new fortified glass screen protector for cell phones, by attaching them to the ends of the model’s dress. This was one of the dresses that the audience was still talking about as they networked around the room.
This collection was a very well put together collection. The colors were very striking and while some of the shirts may have seemed very simple, upon closer inspection the shirts are actually very versatile and can be worn casually or even for a formal event if you pair them with a nice pair of slacks and a blazer. I’m very picky with clothes but this is one collection where I can see myself actually wearing at least half of the clothing showcased.
