In addition to being a fabulous spot for travelers to shack up on their stay in New York City, the Sanctuary Hotel has also played host to a slew of glamorous events and enticed diners and imbibers to their Haven Rooftop Lounge. Now, the Sanctuary Hotel has expanded their draw by adding a new restaurant and lounge called Tender. Hoteliers Hank Freid and Brandon Freid have created a stunning space, welcoming guests first into the sleek lounge area, which is full of turquoise accents and patterned leather seats. Through the lounge you will find the restaurant, which has a unique reflective ceiling and dimmed red lighting. Additionally, there is a library room, complete with a collection of books, a fireplace and its own bar, perfect for private events.
The food at Tender is as equally sophisticated as is the atmosphere. The restaurant offers Modern American cuisine, as well as sushi. Executive chef Dale Schnell and sushi chef Edwin Purnomo work together to produce an inventive and diverse menu of selections. To compliment the food, mixologist Isaac Grillo lends his expertise to the restaurant’s signature cocktail menu. From filet mignon, atlantic salmon and black cod butter lettuce to wild ginger edamame and omakase, Tender has offerings for every guest. Some hits from the menu include the avocado fries, which are exactly what they sound like and will make you one happy camper. They are served along with diced apple, basil essence, and ranch dip.
We also tried two mouthwatering entrees — the Asparagus Risotto, which includes baby scallops, lemon and arugula pesto, and the Pink Panther omakase, which is made with king crab, cucumber, soy paper, crunch, wasabi aioli and yuzu roe. The hearty risotto was a great dish for a rainy evening, and the flavorful scallops made us smile. For someone not partial to sushi, I actually enjoyed the Pink Panther seafood delight. Alongside our entrees we sipped on two of the signature cocktails — Pear Express (Jameson Black Barrel, pear, ginger, prosecco) and Cherry Old Fashion (Michter Rye, filthy black cherry, rhubarb bitters). The former was a refreshing cocktail, that was the perfect balance between sweet and boozy, while the latter was a strong libation, be forewarned.
Tender’s dessert menu is also intriguing, with options such as the Tender Banana Split, Keylime Cheesecake, and Molten Sticky Toffee Cupcake, however we opted for the Valrhona Chocolate Brownie Sundae. The sundae was topped with cocoa nibs praline and mint chocolate chip gelato…need we say more?
So now that you have the lay of the land, it’s time to head their yourself, date in tow, and love yourself some Tender.
Tender is located at 130 W. 47th Street.
