With St. Patrick’s Day just weeks away, it is with perfect timing that the Teeling Whiskey Company launches their latest expression in the United States. The world renowned Irish whiskey company is already widely revered in the industry for their Small Batch rum cask finished Irish whiskey, so it comes with no surprise that their newly launched Single Grain is extraordinary.
During an intimate lunch at New York City’s Rye House, Sales and Marketing Director Stephen Teeling sat down to discuss the excitement surrounding this latest expression. The goal of Teeling is to help introduce a wider and more unique selection of Irish whiskies within the United States. The Teeling Single Grain is only one of a handful of single grain bottlings in the world and uses a unique maturation process in which the whiskey is fully matured in California Cabernet Sauvignon barrels. This gives the spirit notes of red berry and grape flavors. Additionally, the corn-based whiskey is bottled at 46% with no chill filtration, meaning that the natural flavors of the whiskey will stay intact.
The deliciously unique whiskey has a spicy taste at first, which evolves into the fruity flavors from the barrels and has a dry, woody finish. Incredibly smooth, this whiskey tastes great on its own, but also fares well in cocktails. In fact, the whiskey has already been met with critical acclaim, having won the title of World’s Best Grain Whiskey at the World Whiskies Awards in 2014.
