5 Chic And Comfy Outfits to Wear to Thanksgiving Dinner

by

It’s that time of year again; green leaves turn a different color and everything pumpkin spice is now back in rotation. If you’re the early bird type, then you might already be going through your Christmas list. But before you start belting out the classic Christmas carols, you need to plan for something else first: Thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving dinner is something a lot of folks look forward to spending with either their relatives or chosen family. It’s a great night for comfort food, catch-ups, and our personal favorite—fall outfits. Autumn is a great way to get your layering skills ready for the winter season. Sure, it may be time to say bye to beach days and snow cones, but autumn can be just as enjoyable as summer. The temperature drop provides the perfect opportunity to enjoy the great outdoors without the sweat dripping down your forehead and back.

Thanksgiving Picks: Chic and Comfy Outfit Ideas
Whether you’re flying home to enjoy a home-cooked spread or throwing your first “grown-up” Thanksgiving dinner party in the city, we have the right fall outfit for you.

Dress + Tights Combo
If you’re going to a more formal Thanksgiving gathering, then you cannot go wrong with a cocktail dress and tights combination. Make sure you look chic – but still warm – with a knitted dress and black tights. Complete the look with a belt that can help complement the “bulk” of the knitted dress and a pair of simple ankle boots or heeled loafers.

Fall in Love with Sweater Weather
Nothing says “Autumn has come” more than a good ‘ol sweater. It’s too cold for a shirt but not cold enough for extra layers. A sweater plus your favorite pumpkin-flavored drink gives you just the right amount of warmth you need this Thanksgiving. Your favorite sweater paired with your trusty denim jeans will be your go-to outfit this season, but you can try mixing it up by trading in your jeans for a midi skirt. Mixing and matching can extend your wardrobe and give you new silhouettes that you’re sure to enjoy.

Add a Pop of Color with Knitted Scarves
There are autumn days when the clouds look gloomier and the sun looks like it’s hibernating. But not to worry, your outfit can counter the gray skies and gloomy vibes. Take a cue from the trees and add a pop of color to your outfit. Knitted scarves in mustard yellow, browned red or maroon, or even pumpkin orange can give your everyday basic look an autumn twist. Match your basic black dress or jumpsuit with a scarf inspired by the colors of the changing leaves for an easy but chic Thanksgiving dinner outfit.

When in Doubt, Wear Plaid
The weather might get gloomier in some areas of the country, and you might be tempted to stick to your plain tops and sweatpants. However, we think a gloomy day can be brightened up with some prints! Our autumn pick? The classic plaid look. You can go with a co-ord outfit: a cropped plaid blazer with a matching plaid skirt and some boots. But if you’re planning to do a lot of moving around during Thanksgiving (i.e. cooking, playing games with the family, etc.), then you can tie an oversized plaid or flannel shirt and wear it with dark-wash denim and chunky trainers or loafers.

Athleisure but Make it Autumn
Athleisure is an encompassing term for clothing that’s designed for both physical activities and daily wear. Nowadays, it’s not just the athletic brands that are making athleisure more well known. From luxury to fast fashion, several brands have released their own takes on athleisure. This is good news for those who love dressing up but dislike feeling restricted by structured clothing. It’s even better for those especially heavy red days. Loose and light athleisure bottoms like sweatpants are forgiving enough so you can comfortably wear your period underwear without any worry. For a perfect Thanksgiving athleisure look, pair your favorite chunky sneakers with wide-leg sweatpants, a cropped knit top, and a grunge-y denim jacket. It’s a comfy and current look rolled into one. If you’re heading out to take a stroll in the park and appreciate the beautiful autumn foliage before dinner, top off your look with a knitted beret or pom-pom beanie for a warm and fuzzy look that’s just right for the weather.

For most people, Thanksgiving is one of the rare chances they can get everyone in the family (or chosen family) under one roof. It’s important to remember that you’re wearing an outfit that’s truly you and that’s comfortable. The weather’s getting colder and drier, so make sure you pack the essentials like eye drops, lip balm, and natural skincare products to keep your eyes and skin looking fresh and dewy despite the sometimes unforgiving weather.
