This past Friday, the East Village welcomed a new pizzeria to the scene. One Twenty-Two First Avenue is serving artisanal pizza and small plates to the masses, brought to you by James McGown. The cozy venue, which is tucked behind South Brooklyn Pizza, is a great spot for summertime fun. The romantic eatery houses two fireplaces, brick walls and tin ceilings. Chef Samm Dimakis collaborated with McGown to create a menu that pays homage to the area’s history, with dishes such as Spring Vegetable Lasagna, Roasted Garlic Bulb, and Nutella Pizza. Aditionally, ten individual pizzas adorn the menu, ranging from traditional Margherita to The LES (salmon, caper cream, red onion). The restaurant offers craft beers, wine and cocktails, comprised by General Manager Michelle Morgan. Fun concoctions include the Bitter Irishman and Legionnaire’s Tonic.
Manhattan with a Twist had the opportunity to check out the restaurant before its official opening and we were impressed. The new spot is absolutely charming and would be a perfect date spot or summer drinking destination. Located at St. Mark’s, this new restaurant is smack dab in the middle of a culture-filled area of the city and the opening of this artisanal pizzeria can only add to the charm of the area. Make sure to come with a group so you can sample plenty of the menu items, including the delicious charcuterie, heavenly pizzas, and must-have meatballs.
One Twenty-Two First Avenue is located at 122 1st Avenue near St. Mark’s, 212-533-2809.
