A Night at Malbec and Tango House

Argentina has come to New York City! Okay, well not really, but at Malbec and Tango House you will feel as if you stepped into a restaurant in Buenos Aires. If the delicious food and organic boutique wines don’t get you excited, then the sensual Tango show surely will. A night of food, wine, and tango at this restaurant on Lafayette Street was the pre-opening event to kick off this soon-to-be NYC hot spot.

As you enter the restaurant, you are surrounded by dark wooden walls, large wood block tables, and a sparkling bar with a wonderful selection of wines to choose from.  The wine list is very creative and the sommelier, Sebastian, has no problem walking you through the list. Make sure to introduce yourself to him; he talks about every wine on the list with such enthusiasm and like a kid in a candy store, his excitement was contagious. The crowd’s favorite, besides the wine and food, was the incredible cork wall stretching across one half of the restaurant. It was so much fun to see all the corks, which wines they were from, and, of course, one couldn’t help but touch it! This great concept is thanks to Orestes Gonzales, the very artistic and creative architect, as well as Juan Fabbri, the owner.  Juan was fantastic as he worked the floor chatting with guests and toasting to the eventful evening.

The chef prepared a wonderful spread of Argentinian dishes and small bites that were passed around for guests to snack on before the show. The Lamb Tartare on a ridge-like potato chip was a favorite, while the scallop stuffed zucchini, lamb sandwiches and pea soups are certainly meals to mention.

Now the best surprise was saved until last as the guests were escorted down the stairs to another bar and theater room. The bar and lounge section felt very cool and cave-like, while the performance room was dark, sultry, and urban. It’s as if you were going to three separate places in one restaurant–very cool.

And the band played on! The Tango performers certainly gave the Dancing with the Stars choreographers a run for their money as they twirled, glided, seduced, and Tangoed for guests. Pablo, the vocalist, was one of a kind when singing with the instrumentalists and was a nice break while the dancers prepared for their next number. The tango numbers were performed beautifully and you could feel the passion and chemistry each partner had with one another. It was like being in a trance of lust, passion, and movement. The dances brought back the days when love and chasing after a woman were commonplace. The dancers loved what they were doing and they brought the passion and pent-up emotions of the Tango to life and captured everyone’s attention.

This restaurant is an excellent choice for a date or to just get out and do something different with your night. Dinner and a show has never been easier than here at Malbec and Tango House; you only have to walk downstairs. Just be aware, if you liked your date before you went into Malbec and Tango, you just may love them when you leave! Be on the lookout for their opening coming soon!
