Trend alert! Adult summer camps are all the rage these day — everyone from the ages of 21 to 65 are heading to the woods to relive their glory days at sleepaway camp. We joined the crowds and headed to Club Getaway, located in Kent, Connnecticut, for a weekend we won’t soon forget.

The weekend was hosted by infamous hate-to-love, love-to-hate Kirill Bichutsky, also known as the Slut Whisperer, so, needless to say, we weren’t quite sure what we were getting into attending Kirill’s Wet Hot American Summer weekend. But from the moment we stepped on the bus leaving the city (which takes you straight to camp and back in under three hours), we had a great time. Free flowing drinks got the ride off to a festive start and upon arrival, we were checked in, showed to our cabin, and then sat down for a big dinner.

The food here blew us away — if you can remember your childhood summer camp, you’ll definitely remember the food left much to be desired, but not here! There was an immense buffet set up with everything from fried chicken to eggplant parm to lo mein, and each table was adorned with bottles of red wine, white wine and champagne. In anticipation of the full weekend of activities ahead of us, we opted for a quiet glass of bourbon by the fire that night before turning in to bed, while others headed to the Boathouse for a night of dancing.

The accommodations here are pretty nice, as well — camp-like cabins that accommodate 2-4 people look adorable from the outside and are pretty basic inside, but are very comfortable. Complete with air conditioning and a ceiling fan, you’ll have no problem getting cozy. Staff will clean your cabin daily and provide you with fresh towels, but make sure to bring your own toiletries and shampoo.

Based on a 300-acre property, Club Getaway delivered on the activities and fun factor the next two days. Prepped and ready with itinerary in hand, we had to pick and choose carefully which activities we MOST wanted to participate in, because all of them sounded awesome. We started off our morning with outdoor yoga, which could not have been more relaxing and beautiful, and chased it with an ample breakfast. We then made ourselves busy going from one spot to the next — tie dying t-shirts, learning how to pop ‘n lock, bungee trampolining and swinging like tarzan on stunt swings, all before we even ate lunch!

After digesting we had even more fun at the aerial park where you can zip line, among other things, then took a paint and sip class (okay, it wasn’t so much a class as painting whatever we felt like and drinking wine), watched other campers play keg wiffle ball and duel in a color war and then headed towards the lake for an epic happy hour party. Dubbed A-Hoy Matey, Let’s Get Ship-Faced, the pirate-themed happy hour was free flowing with drinks, shots and fresh dogs and burgers, all set to the amazing music by The Fresh Kids of Bel Air (if you live in the city, check them out Friday nights at Le Poisson Rouge, you’re welcome).

The evening culminated with a 90’s themed prom dinner and dance, complete with the appropriate decor, an ice luge, and plenty of dancing. We topped it off with s’mores around a giant campfire at midnight. Sunday morning brought us more of the same, along with a whole new slew of activities to incorporate into our remaining hours at camp. While some went the relaxing route with bloody mary bingo, we opted to get a bit more active with a gorgeous mountain hike. From the top we could see the whole camp below and the glistening lake called to us! We spent the rest of the afternoon lakeside, drinking beers and baking in the sun. It was the perfect end to the perfect weekend.

And don’t fret! Club Getaway hosts amazing themed weekends all summer long (even through October), and the activities can change from weekend to weekend, giving you a new and exciting experience each time. Other activities include waterskiing, archery, sports like volleyball, tennis and basketball, rock climbing, dodgeball, bike rides, slip ‘n slide, mixology and so much more. One weekend was certainly not enough. All the fun and games you can imagine, unlimited alcohol and food, and a beautiful location is a no-brainer destination you just can’t miss. I certainly can’t wait to bring out my inner kid again and I’ll definitely be back before summer’s over! And one thing’s for sure: what happens at the campfire, stays at the campfire…
