It’s that time of year again, New Yorkers. You know that thrilling time in New York when stylists, designers, bloggers, editors, models and showrooms come together for fashion week. My first fashion week invite was from exceptional designer Ann Yee.
For fall/winter 2014, Ann Yee found inspiration in the concept of the modern nomad. A mix of textures represent the layers of experience the nomad collects on their exploration of new cultures. Chunky hand-knits are layered with open-knit crochet sweaters and jersey speckled tweed outerwear. Faux fur and vegan leather accents reference an ethical and forward-thinking mindset of the modern nomad. The color palette of the collection consisted of neutrals like gray, black and ivory with unexpected touches of violet, blue, and rust. Hair by Aveda and makeup by MAC, the Ann Yee presentation celebrated the adventurous and non-conformist spirit of the nomad.
Ann Yee is not a newcomer in the fashion industry. Yee moved to New York to design knitwear for prestigious labels such as Barney’s and Alice+Olivia. She also played an integral part in the launch of the contemporary knit label, DUFFY. With her customized pieces and signature affinity for proportion and volume, Ann Yee consistently creates collections that are versatile yet very distinct.
