Bar Schimmi, a siphoned-off area of the larger nightclub space Schimanski’s, is a brand new lounge as artfully decorated with paintings as it is with people. Guests of all walks of life, with style profiles ranging from the outrageous to the conservative, showed up to celebrate a new iteration of a Williamsburg hot spot and an old-school style icon.
In the space formerly occupied by Verboten, fashion designer and style empress Patricia Field, most known for her work costuming the cast of Sex and the City, hosted a preview of the new tenants, as well as the art work of Ben Copperwheat.
Copperwheat’s pop art will be on display for the next two months and feature renderings of Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, Joan Rivers and Madonna, in the psychedelic color palette that Fields’ work is known for.
With or without a national fashion icon, Bar Schimmi is an effortlessly cool bar with laid back vibes and a great DJ, and if you socialize in Williamsburg you will end up drinking there sooner rather than later.
