Be TRANSported at Brookfield Place Plaza

by

Brookfield Place Plaza, formerly known as the World Financial Center, is playing host to an amazing (and eco-friendly) public art exhibition from May 1-27th. Ever wanted to see artists inside modified shipping containers to mint coins, collect rainwater, harvest solar energy and tend a rooftop garden? Well, even if it’s never crossed your mind before, you get to see it all for free.

Transported

Commisioned by Arts Brookfield, TRANSported will place two 20-foot shipping containers on the riverfront plaza as part of the New Museum’s Ideas City Festival which challenges artists to reimagine the urban environment in a future shaped by depleted and destroyed resources. Sounds pretty cool, right? The theme of the exhibit is ‘Untapped Capital.’ Artist Seth Kinmont will present Tender, a hybrid printing press and coin striker that will mint a proprietary currency whose value shifts from fixed to fluid. Habitat For Artists will present TRANSported: Art Pac-Kit, in which the shipping container will be transformed into two working studios that will harvest rainwater and solar power while playing home to a small garden. Guests can leave suggestions and ideas on a public message board to further discussions on conservation and sustainability.

Transported

Vice President and Artistic Director of Arts Brookfield, Debra Simon, states, “The two installations comprising TRANSported promise to engage and delight visitors while also raising challenging questions about the city’s ever-changing economy and environment.” We can’t wait to check it out!

Brookfield Place Plaza is located at 220 Vesey Street.
