The Boomerang Theatre Company has done it again. The last time I attended a production by The Boomerang Theatre Company was to see A Midsummer Night’s Dream at Central Park and enjoyed it tremendously; this time I was fortunate to catch a performance of Love’s Labour’s Lost at Bryant Park.
Written by William Shakespeare and directed by Cailin Heffernan, Love’s Labour’s Lost introduces us to the King of Navarre, played by Timothy W. Hull, who has his three companions swear to him that they will not fall victim to love, pleasure, or give any sort of attention to a female companion for three years to pursue academic study. Biron, played by Jason Loughlin; Longaville, played by Erik Bryan; and Dumaine, played by Dan Renkin all find this task somewhat difficult to achieve, for obvious reasons. When you get hit by cupid do you really have a choice?
This interpretation of Love’s Labour’s Lost was wonderfully done. The backdrop of Bryant Park played well with the storyline. Right off the bat the actors did a good job in engaging the audience members. You can tell by the smiles and laugher heard throughout Bryant Park that the audience members enjoyed it thoroughly. Let’s be honest, there are a lot of people that can’t understand half of what the characters in Shakespeare plays say; so when you see kids younger than ten years old and teenagers (somewat younger than me, I won’t tell you my age) laughing at the appropriate time, you know you’ve got yourself a hit. The standouts of the production? Michael Russinik did an exceptional job in his role and was very charismatic as Costard the clown; as did Sarah Norris who was very funny in her role as Jacquenetta, the country wench.
So will I be attending other productions by Boomerang Theatre Company? I don’t even have to think twice about it… I’m already guaranteed a good time by a cast and crew that can pull off two hits in a row! Tickets are free and you do not need a reservation. What could be better than that?
