Brooklyn Exposed held their second annual Brooklyn Shaken and Stirred this week, an event that celebrates the art of mixology. The event brought together the best of the best of Brooklyn’s liquors, bartenders and restaurants. Over twenty different spirits and bars showcased their concoctions and we loved it! Luckily, there were also plenty of small bites to help soak up all the alcohol, as well as music by DJ Nutritious. Let’s recap some of our favorites:
Brooklyn Gin: This Brooklyn-based gin company served attendees the refreshing Brooklyn Carousel, which was made with gin, fresh lemon juice, triple sec and some Peychaud’s bitters. It was light and sweet, but not overwhelmingly so. Perfect to sip on a rooftop.
300 Joules: We tried 300 Joules Cinnamon Infusion Liqueur straight up and fell in love. It was unique, delicious, and tasted like dessert in your mouth.
White Pike Whiskey: This whiskey, which incidentally comes in an awesome award-winning bottle, was great in the Smokey and The Bandit cocktail. It was comprised of chipotle infused whiskey, lime juice, simple syrup from smoked bourbon sugar, and was served in a lightly smoked mason jar. Not only was it inventive, but it tasted great, as well!
Sorel: Jack From Brooklyn brought us Sorel, a vibrant spiced hibiscus liqueur. Not only would this be perfect for fall on its own, warmed up, but it also tasted lovely with sparkling water.
Barrow’s Intense Ginger Liqueur: We love that this liqueur is on the market. Ginger is used in so many cocktail and simple syrups these days and now we can simply use this instead! Barrow’s served us an Intense Ginger Shake, which used only the ginger liqueur and Blue Marble Vanilla Ice Cream. It was out of this world.
Widow Jane: Cacao Prieto brought us this 7 year Bourbon Whiskey in form of a Blood in the Sand cocktail and we rejoiced when we tried it. This cocktail, made with bourbon, Punt e Mes, Gran Classico, orange juice and orange zest was a definite highlight.
Brooklyn Oenology: This wine haven utilizes New York grown grapes and allowed attendees to sample a wide range of their products. We tried two whites — the 2012 Shindig and 2010 Chardonnay. Both were refreshing and crisp and we can’t wait to try the rest of their products.
Now just because we haven’t highlighted all of the other amazing vendors doesn’t mean we didn’t love them, too! Everything served at this event was incredibly delicious and left a lot of people very happy at the end of the night. Check out some pictures below of more of our favorites!
