Beautifully plated and classically fresh is what lies at Chapter One in the West Village. The chef offers a sophisticated take on American pub cuisine, with a home-like feeling inspired by New York City’s historic taverns.
Between the Charred Octopus, Lentil Fritters, and Beef Tartar, starting off the evening can be a hard decision here. Knowing all the ingredients are fresh from sustainable farms and the products are of full quality, allows for this restaurant to really stand out on Greenwich Avenue. Each dish is beautifully plated, fully portioned, and very attractive when it comes to the prices, making it a weekly and even daily spot for some locals.
The octopus appetizer was perfectly cooked over a bed of Potato Confit, Sundried Tomatoes, Onions, and dressed with fresh Meyer Lemon juice. Pair this with the City Winery Rosé and you have yourself one incredible pairing!
The entrée selection is seasonally inspired and full of wonderful dishes. The Duck Confit with Zuchinni Strings and Spiced Peach Chutney is crispy, meaty, savory, sweet, and spiced (say that five times fast). Stunning and vertically plated, this dish is a must have when you visit Chapter One. Share it if you have to, but only so you can order other delicious plates, but whatever you do, you must order this one.
Since you’re already more than halfway to foodie heaven, here’s the “scoop” on the desserts. The Apple Fritters with Salted Caramel Ice Cream are the perfect summer share when you want something sweet after your savory dishes. Each order is made fresh, perfectly fried, and melts in your mouth with every bite. Be sure to save some room for this one and have yourself a sweet ending.
Enjoy happy hours at Chapter One with seasonal, sustainable, and creatively inspired cuisine. With wines from City Winery and other local vineyards, you will enjoy every sip and bite at this restaurant.
