You never need an excuse to drink tequila, but that doesn’t mean you won’t take advantage of a holiday that gives us ample opportunity to drink some. Cinco de Mayo is on this coming sunny Saturday and New Yorkers are excited to finally enjoy some warm weather and some cold drinks. Here’s some amazing cocktail recipes to add to your repertoire:
Pancho Villa Margarita (Courtesy of Los Arango Tequila)
1.5 parts Los Arango Blanco
¾ parts fresh lime juice
½ parts agave nectar
1 lime wedge
Combine Los Arango Blanco, fresh lime juice, agave nectar into cocktail shaker with ice. Shake well. Strain into a rocks glass over ice. Garnish with a lime wedge.
Pepino el Toro (Courtesy of La Loncheria)
2 oz. house made pineapple and cucumber puree
1.5 oz. Pelotón de la Muerte
0.5 oz. lime juice
Combine ingredients and add chili salt for rim.
FAME (Corutesy of Tequila Avión)
1.5 Tequila Avión Silver
1 fresh carrot juice
.5 ginger syrup
.25 simple
.5 fresh Orange
.5 fresh lemon
Combine ingredients.
Peach Margarita (Courtesy of Andrea Correale)
2 parts silver tequila
1 ½ parts peach schnapps
1 lime, juiced
½ cup peach nectar
Thyme, for garnish
Peach slice, for garnish
Ice
Fill glasses with ice. Shake all liquid ingredients in a shaker. Pour over ice. Garnish with a fresh peach slice and a spring of thyme. Serves 1-2.
Prickled Pink (Courtesy of Milagro Tequila)
2 parts Milagro Silver
1 part Fresh Lime Juice
2 parts Pink Aqua de Tuna **
¾ part Agave Nectar
Pour all ingredients into a Boston shaker with ice. Shake and strain over fresh ice in a rocks glass. **To make the Agua de Tuna: Peel and roughly chop 5 prickly pear fruits (green and red), add to blender and puree till smooth. Pour through a fine mesh strainer to remove seed and pulp.

One 2 oz tomato water ice cube
3 good dashes of celery bitters
2 oz Tito’s Handmade Vodka, infused
1 bar spoon of pickle brine
To make your infusion, combine 1 cucumber, coriander, cardamom, white and black pepper corns, Lemon and Lime zest, VERY, VERY SMALL PINCH of salt into one 750 ml bottle of Tito’s Handmade Vodka. Let sit for 2 days and turn the bottle overnight. To make your MDT cocktail, combine ingredients into cocktail shaker. Shake, pour into cocktail glass, garnish and serve. Garnish: Old Bay rim and skewer of pickles (pickles: asparagus, red bell pepper, carrots, celery, red and green jalapenos, garlic and homemade brine).
