If given the chance to rate Cinderella Has Cellulite: And Other Musings from a Last Wife from boring to funny, it would surpass funny and go straight to laugh-out-loud funny! Although I have never been married, I found myself empathizing with the woman in this story, as well as the many other “last wives” that are out there. This is a book that is entertaining enough so that you don’t have to be female or be a wife to find the humor in these tales, or feel bad for some of the situations that occur.
Cinderella Has Cellulite, by Donna Arp Weitzman, covers all the possible issues and situations that a last wife will face when she marries a man that has had previous wives, and in some cases, kids with the other wife. As you can imagine, integrated families like this can cause a lot of issues and tension, especially with younger children who may feel that the new wife is infringing on their time with their dad. We also have the in-laws who may not like the new wife, and the friends of the previous wife, who find any and every opportunity to take jabs at the new wife. And we then have the new wife: a small mouse in the corner surrounded by cats everywhere. What is a new wife to do??
Donna Arp Weitzman shares her stories and the things that she has learned throughout her life so that “last wives” are able to deal with issues like this. The fact of the matter is that these wives have to deal with all sorts of issues and the majority of the time the time they have to sit there, grin, and bare it. This humorous book is a must read for women everywhere. I read the book in one day because as soon as I picked up the book, I could not put it down. You truly do learn something every day and especially from books, because I never heard the term “last wife” before, but I’m glad that I now know better. Whether you plan to or not, there is a slight chance that you could be a last wife and I’m taking all the advice from Donna into account.
