Last week, prestigious New Zealand winery, Cloudy Bay, introduced Manhattanites to their newly released 2014 Sauvignon Blanc. The launch party, which was held at the beautiful Roof at Park South Hotel, gave lucky attendees something to look forward to. Despite a potentially difficult season full of rain, Cloudy Bay managed to harvest early and produce another outstanding wine.
This wine has a strong minerality, with aromas of kaffir lime and grapefruit and citrus, stone fruit and lemongrass flavors. Senior Winemaker Tim Heath stated “our resulting sauvignon blanc speaks of sophistication. It is a tightly framed wine with a core of citrus and an appealing tactile component.” The acidic 2014 Sauv is not only a pleasant wine to drink on its own, but it is easy to pair with food, as well. At the launch party, a selection of hors d’oeuvres made the rounds, each of which complemented the wine and vice versa. Crudo topped with caviar and a spicy shrimp dish each brought out different flavors in the wine, while Oysters XO shucked fresh oysters right in front of you, topping your bivalves with the sauce of your choosing.
Not only can you purchase the 30th vintage of Cloudy Bay’s flagship wine for $32.99 at shops such as Sherry Lehman, K&D and Astor Wine & Spirits, but you can also find it at top NYC restaurants such as Lure Fish Bar, Nobu 57, Nobu New York and Catch.
