Ivy has always been different. Strange visions have plagued her since childhood and have left her distant and fearful of others learning her secret. When her sister and best friend, Jasmine, suddenly disappears Ivy’s search leads her to uncovering more truths than she expected: her visions are not hallucinations but glimpses into a parallel realm where Jasmine is being held by demons. As if that’s not crazy enough, her guide in rescuing her sister is the dangerous and attractive Adrian, who is bound by an ancient legacy to betray her.
The Beautiful Ashes is the first in a new series by bestselling author Jeaniene Frost. Frost wastes no time in throwing her characters into action and while this helps in bringing the reader into the story, there is also a lot of information to take in. But don’t let that deter you! As you continue along the storyline, you’ll find yourself quickly piecing the puzzle together.
And this book is funny. I couldn’t stop laughing at Ivy’s sarcastic humor:
“He laughed that deep, masculine rumble teasing something inside me that was too stupid to realize kidnappers were off-limits” (25).
“’I wish I was one of them right now,’ I told him, knowing all he heard were hissing noises, ‘I’d bite your head off.’ He replied with the Demonish version of what was probably, ‘Whoooo’s a grumpy guuurl?’” (212).
By the end of the book, your emotions will have been on a rollercoaster ride. The conclusion is action-packed and while the circumstances are far-fetched, the vulnerability of each character is real. Frost also sets you up for the next installation in the series, which I hope will be soon!
Demons, angels, gargoyles, monster hellhounds, and ancient biblical legacies are all found here. Take a chance and find out who wins this battle of good and evil.
