Dive Right In with Deepest Man

Deepest Man, a multimedia theatrical production, premiered last week at 3-Legged Dog Productions to great reviews. The show, written by James Scruggs and directed by Mark Rayment, utilizes remarkable technology called Musion Eyeliner, which creates live 3D holographic images on stage. Deepest Man tells the tale of a grieving Dr. Hazzardville Sommers, who recently lost his wife to a drowning accident. The doctor, now finding himself in role reversal, is now a patient in a mental institution, where he experiments with freediving, an extreme sport in which divers hold their breath instead of using scuba equipment.

Once Sommers takes the plunge into the water, he takes the audience on a journey into his unconscious. During his underwater journey, Sommers encounters a famous and influential talk show host who he believes speaks directly to him and comforts him. The scene then changes and Sommers takes on the role of the talk show host, interviewing three individuals, all of whom have lost people to drowning during extreme storms. They all take turns telling their harrowing stories in a round robin format, interrupting one another and building up to the climax of the story.

The show comes startling back to reality when Dr. Sommers is found dead, having drowned in the sink in which he attempted freediving. The play, which only runs one hour in length, shows how everyone processes grief, loss and survivor’s guilt differently, as well as one man’s loss of sanity in search of answers. The use of technology alone would bring us back to this theater — the striking visuals kept us submerged in the show — from the water-filled stage walls to the tower of TVs, the 3D imagery was both beautiful and innovative.

Deepest man is showing for a limited time through June 14th. $20 tickets can be purchased here.
