Drinks, Eats, Music and Fun Abound at NY Heritage Salon & Bounty

by

Summer in the city can get kind of boring. Flocks of residents abandon the concrete jungle for more nature in the Hamptons, Long Island, and other beach and lake destinations. For those sticking it out, you’re in for a treat next week, where Toasting the Town will play host to their first annual NY Heritage Salon & Bounty. The event brings together top New York City food and drink vendors, for a fun-filled evening of music, cocktails, food and more. We caught up with Toasting the Town founder Joe Karcinell to get the inside scoop on what to expect at this unique summer event.

Toasting the Town is an online publication that encourages New Yorkers to enjoy the city the way tourists do. How do you think the upcoming event will help?
It’s a chance to bring what we do to life – which is really a combination of education and entertainment = ‘edutainment.’ Not only do we encourage ‘sightseeing for locals,’ and local tourism, but we also infuse story-telling and tongue-in-cheek moments as well as a bit of creative writing – into the history of our topics. We author short non-fiction creative stories, and we’re bringing the quality of our unique style to life, as a way of offering a three dimensional experience of our brand to our audience.
How did you come up with the idea for the NY Heritage Salon & Bounty?
I’ve been to many tasting events over the years from weddings to branded events and figured that infusing some entertainment and style, while playing homage to the history of New York would be a grand plan indeed. I wanted to give the attendee more than what they can enjoy at other events.
How did you get Dale Degroff on board for the event?
Prior to being so immersed in the craft cocktail world I met Leo Degroff (Dale’s son, and the one and only Prince Cocktail), while out at a karaoke bar of all places! Leo was with some friends and by the end of the evening we were all friends and having a blast as if we’d known each other for decades. I had told Leo that my e-publication needed to start doing events and he immediately came on board as a producer…and one of the first things we established, was of course that we wanted to honor his father for the history, resume and success he’s had…not to mention, the Degroffs as a whole should simply be honored for the kind of family they are. I got Dale on board because Leo, his son, is a friend of mine first – before business associate – and I’ve grown to love, appreciate and respect the family. Frankly, the answer is as simple as, being friend with Leo and his family…or, being friends with really incredible people.
What can guests expect to enjoy during the evening?
Participants include leading restaurants like Keen’s Steakhouse, Serendipity, McSorley’s, Nick’s & Harry’s Italian…and more! Serving up delicious bites and signature dishes. Craft cocktails and tastings from leading local brands like NY Distilling, Brooklyn Gin, Hillrock Bourbon, Catskill Provisions…and more, as well as crafts cocktails and tastings from global brands like Montelobos Mezcal, Woodford Reserve, Partida Tequila, Elijah Craig, Michter’s Whiskey, Cognac Ferrand and more.
On the other side of the coin, there will be two programs within each segment of the evening – a VIP program as well as a General Admission program. We will be featuring some acting/skits, dramatic arts performances and human percussion, honorees and New York Stories. A silent auction, artist corner, and some fun surprises! Not to mention, music from the Nightingale Jazz Band, all night long.
How do you think NY Heritage Salon & Bounty differs from other events in the city?
1/3 Tasting, 1/3 gala, 1/3 off-Broadway show. The fingerprint and intertwining of all things is a unique pulse which will truly mesh together for a full evening and experience for our guests.
