Art is such an important part of life. It can heal, convey messages, bring people together, and entertain. So we should always find ways to cultivate new talent and highlight their accomplishments.
Provincetown is a small coastal city in New England known for its beautiful beaches, seafood cuisine, and LGBTQ parties. And thanks to the Fine Arts Work Center, the small city is also known as a haven for writers and artists. Through its fellowship program, residencies, and workshops, the local art institution has been nurturing creatives from all backgrounds for decades. So when we were invited to an art opening hosted by the famed center, we jumped at the chance.
The New England-style event was held at the GAA Gallery in Tribeca in late May. Toasting the upcoming summer season in Provincetown, the unforgettable evening included readings from current fellows and alumni, visual artwork, cocktails, and Cape Cod-inspired hor d’oeuvres by Provincetown Chef Jake Hetnarski and music by DJ April Hunt.
To celebrate the artistic achievement of current fellows, author and Pulitzer Prize-winner Michael Cunningham read a funny excerpt from one of his many bestselling books. My favorite was the reading by author and lecturer Sterling HolyWhiteMountain. He enthralled guests with a moving excerpt from a piece that will be published in the New Yorker.
We look forward to the many artistic contributions the fellows from the Fine Arts Work Center will continue to make within the art world.
