You know the feeling when you taste something so delicious, so unique, it just brightens up your whole week? That was the feeling I had when I walked away from an outstanding tasting of Dolcezza Gelato. The company, started by power couple Robb and Violeta, opened in 2004 in Georgetown in Washington D.C. After many, many successful years serving happy customers, the company just opened up to customers nation-wide by opening up an online shop, which allows customers to have their amazing gelatos and sorbets delivered fresh to their homes.
Now, you’re obviously wondering what sets this gelato apart from all the rest. All the gelato is hand-made using the best and freshest ingredients from local farmers, including fruits, herbs, nuts, cheese, and grass-fed, hormone-free milk and cream. Every step in the process of making their treats is hands on, creating a swoon-worthy finished product. Best of all, Dolcezza constantly changes their recipes, creating new flavors for each season, depending on what’s fresh and available at any given time.
These aren’t your average, run of the mill flavors, either. Some of their current flavors include Peppermint Stracciatella, Blackberries & Cream, Thai Coconut Milk, Salted Caramel and Valrhona Dark Chocolate. While most people can’t resist salted caramel, I usually find it quite unappealing, but Dolcezza’s version had me going back for second helpings. It was unreal. Their sorbets were even more creative, with flavors such as Lemon Opal Basil, Cucumber Tarragon Gin, Blackberry Lemon-Thyme and Yellow Peach SoCo. The quality of the ingredients they use is unmistakable; the flavors leap off the spoon into your mouth. We couldn’t be happier that D.C. is no longer hogging Dolcezza for themselves.
While ordering some pints to your home is a little pricey, we have to say it’s totally worth it. $60 will score you four pints of their incredible gelato and sorbet and we recommend hopping on the Dolcezza bandwagon.
