Lynn Zachos, founder of Ava Gray Direct, is revolutionizing the way we think about style, fashion, and women entrepreneurs. The premise of the label is comfortable, yet sophisticated styles that can often be hard to come by. Looking to help others, Zachos modeled Ava Gray Direct after businesses such as Mary Kay and Avon and now she has 100 stylists selling under Ava Gray. I had an awesome opportunity to chat with Lynn about her vision, her style, and her groundbreaking company.
AVA GRAY Direct is more than a fashion collection. Can you talk more about what the company offers?
We offer woman the opportunity to have their own pop up fashion boutique without the expensive cost of the typical brick and mortar store. We offer them a fun, flexible and profitable business model and provide them training and support. Women can run their business on their own time, whether it is part-time or full-time, it is up to them! Our figure-flattering fashion is not only stylish, but is comfortable and can be worn from the bedroom to the boardroom.
How did you get your start in fashion?
I have always been an entrepreneur and have been in some form of a design business. As a wife, mom and business owner I was like most modern woman today–very busy with multiple hats and I had to be ready for anything and dress the part. I wanted fashionable, comfortable apparel that would transition with me from one job to the next. I discussed this with my daughter and she agreed, so we set out looking for this apparel and we would end up in the pajama departments every time. So with that said, we knew we had to design a collection ourselves that was contemporary, comfortable, and chic for women like us.
What matters most to you as a women in the fashion industry?
Providing women affordable, fashionable apparel made in the USA that will transition them throughout the day. I also care deeply about providing women with a fun, flexible, profitable business opportunity in fashion!
How would you define the style your collection exemplifies?
Classic, contemporary chic style that is so comfortable you can wear it from day to night.
New York City is so rich in fashion and style. Do you look to NYC for inspiration?
I love walking through NYC and seeing what women are wearing and I enjoy looking in the store windows to see all the different fashion. I love creating designs for women that are different, but very desirable to wear every day.
What is your favorite item in your closet?
I have to say my Signature Pocket Tank Dress. I love this dress with the soft bra inserts. I can relax in this without my bra and have the coverage and style I want, so if someone unexpected stops by I don’t have to run for cover.
What are your favorite trends this season?
I love mixing textures, but I love the classic white/black color blocking; I think that all women should have this in their wardrobes.
Some people think fashion and style are synonymous. Can you tell us what exemplifies style to you?
Fashion is creative and fun, but not always practical. Style is individual; we help women figure out their own style based on what is the most flattering for their body shapes, so they will feel beautiful and comfortable in their own skin.
