Summer is right around the corner and for most of us that means vacation, beaches, and bathing suits! Just because you go away for a week on vacation does not mean you have to sacrifice your diet or gym routine. Many hotels around the world are taking part in helping their guests stay fit. How wonderful it is now that you can indulge on vacation and don’t have to worry about feeling guilty for having that extra Pina Colada or a dessert at a great restaurant. If you’re anything like me, I am not that motivated to do anything but lay by the pool on vacation, but when I saw a Zumba class on the beach when I was at the Marriott in Aruba, my thoughts completely changed about vacation exercise. Take a look at some of these other great finds:
The Gansevoort Turks & Caicos combines your desire to get fit with your love for travel. This fabulous resort offers Exhale Core Fusion classes in a beachfront open pavilion. Imagine…the sound of waves crashing onto the sand, serene music, and doing yoga. If you want to relax, you can also go for a fusion massage in a tranquil treatment room with a signature spa drink, which helps aid those sore muscles from class. After class and a massage, you can enjoy a nice healthy breakfast or buffet with fresh fish served every day to give you those needed vitamins and Omega 3’s. Rates start at $500/nightly based on double occupancy and 4 night minimum stay.
Westin Hotels & Resorts has partnered with New Balance to create a one of a kind workout clothing rental system for their guests. Workout clothes take up a lot of room in suitcases and with airlines increasing pricing on bags and weight, just think of how convenient it would be to be able to travel to your hotel and not have to worry about taking workout gear with you. During your stay, you can rent sneakers with disposable insoles, tanks, pants, and accessories for just $5. At first, this sounded a little odd to me. I mean, come on…renting sneakers? But when I researched it more, I discovered that they have top of the line products and it gives you the perfect excuse to bring an extra pair of heels, a dress, or go shopping! Westin’s Running Concierges can also take guests on guided three mile group runs, highlighting local hotspots along the way.
Sheraton Hotels and Resorts have a partnership with Core Performance and have created a package that allows you to call the front desk and ask for their complimentary Gym-In-A-Bag, which includes all the accessories you need to work up a sweat. This kit includes a workout book filled with great exercises, an exercise mat, resistance band, massage stick, and foam roller. As if that’s not convenient enough, they also offer in-room training videos!
The Body Holiday, St. Lucia is an all-inclusive health and wellness resort. As a guest of this property, you can create your own fitness itinerary, whether you want to try the “Lose It, Tone It” program, the “Beat the Bloat” program, or simply take part in the unique daily fitness activities, including Spoga (Spin + Yoga) at the new sky-high Tree House spin studio. The resort is also offering upcoming fitness retreats, including Jive June, a dance-a-thon and Well Fit Families, which is a family boot camp program. Now you don’t ever have to sacrifice a workout on vacation and can even get the whole family involved!
The Loden Hotel is located in downtown Vancouver’s well known Coal Harbour neighborhood, just steps away from the waterfront. Famous for its personalized approach and exceptional service, The Loden has been awarded a 5 Star Diamond by the American Academy of Hospitality Sciences. This exquisite hotel invites travelers to revisit their New Year’s fitness resolutions with the “West Coast Running Package,” where starting rates are $460 nightly when staying in a Signature King Guestroom. Now through August 31st, 2013, the “West Coast Running” package includes a 30 minute Infrared Sauna session, 60 minute “Relaxing Runner’s Massage,” and a complimentary performance enhanced protein shake served in an environmentally friendly glass water bottle. As if this package isn’t wonderful enough, guests also will receive complimentary coconut water and laundry service for their workout apparel free of charge.
Fairmont Scottsdale Princess offers Well & Being at Willow Stream Spa, which delivers a personal and sustainable wellness program and is the first resort in the U.S. to implement a medically-guided and fully customized wellness experience, combining health, wellness, nutrition, integrative medicine, fitness and advanced skincare. Through the program, guests can participate in cooking classes, guest lectures, fitness programs and more. Top tier personal trainers will guide guests through amazing workout programs such as aerial yoga, TRX suspension training, CrossFit, Rip Surfer classes and more.
Each package is unique and there are many more hotels joining in on this let’s get fit trend. I think it is wonderful how many people are still trying to stay in shape while on vacation or on business. The healthier you are, the longer you live, and the more fun you can have!
