The Hearing Health Foundation kicked off a wonderful event June 11th with the Junior Board’s Summer Soiree at the Boat Basin Café. A mixture of young professionals, families, and friends of hearing loss sufferers gathered for a night of food, wine, and silent auction to raise money for more research for this amazing foundation.
The silent auction was a real treat as many companies donated great gifts such as, an Elements of Wine Class taught a Astor Wines, Pucci Sunglasses and vacation package, a trip for 4 to a tropical island, Ballerina Slippers signed and donated by Rebecca Krohn, NYC Ballet principal dancer, and 3 classes taught by the ballerina herself! Other items included signed sports memorabilia, spa packages, and even some items for the home. Many guests excitedly placed their bids in the hopes of having the winning offer, and the money raised all went to research.
Wine, beer, and a summer BBQ was a fun and entertaining way to raise money and meet a variety of really inspiring people. The Boat Basin served up juicy burgers and a wonderful salad. For dessert, S’mores & More offered delicious homemade marshmallow, graham, and chocolate delights, while also sharing a part of their unique business. The owner of the company stumbled upon the idea while camping and making S’mores, and then decided to build a business around the concept. They have gotten very creative with making more than just the average S’mores and currently have a variety of combinations including fresh fruit and chocolate and caramel.
The good news is that even if you could not attend this particular event, the Hearing Health Foundation does have other events and more fundraisers for you to attend. If you think you would want to donate a little sooner you can go online and donate any time, remember, every dollar is a dollar towards a cure.
