The Immersive Van Gogh exhibit has been traveling its way across the country for the past year, with people in major cities flocking to buy tickets even before it arrives. The exhibit, which debuts in New York City on June 10th, gracefully honors the legacy and works of the artist, whose tragic tale we’re all familiar with.
The biggest exhibition yet, the New York City pop-up covers over 500,000 cubic feet of space, with three rooms full of animated art projections, a sit-down café with desserts, pastries, drinks and “to-gogh snacks,” gift shop, and more little exhibits within the exhibit.

For example, amidst the gift shop you will find interactive stations like the chromesthesia experience, which is comprised of 10 colorful booths that will immerse you in a light and sound experience based on chromesthesia. This form of synesthesia is widely believed to have affected Van Gogh, and allows for a person to hear color and see sound.
Nearby, Letters from Vincent, which takes the form of a tree made out of letters, uses AI and allows viewers to ask Vinny a question and have him respond with a customized letter, thanks to the use of digital scans of over 1,000 letters Van Gogh had written. Also be on the lookout for the Pocket Gallery for an augmented reality experience.
However cool and thoughtful the lobby and experiences are, the main draw here is the immersive exhibit itself, which comprises three large rooms, some fitted with mirrors, sculptures, and plenty of seating should you want to relax. Iconic works by Van Gogh are projected throughout the entire space, brought to life with animation and ethereal music by Luca Longobardi. While you can walk around, explore, and snap the requisite Instagram photos, we recommend taking a seat to take it all in.
Van Gogh’s bewitching works of art meld with his sometimes turbulent and emotional life in this exhibition, evoking a touching, thoughtful and reflective experience.
Patrons will be able to see some of their favorite works of art, including The Starry Night, The Bedroom in Arles, and Self Portrait with Felt Hat, in a whole new way.
The experience lasts for an hour, with tons of safety measures in place — including temperature checks, touchless ticketing, hand sanitizer stations, and social distancing markers. Masks are required at all times.
Immersive Van Gogh takes place at Pier 36 from June 10th through September 6th. Tickets are on sale now and range from $29.99 for kids, up to $99.99 for VIP Flex Tickets. Basic timed tickets are $49.99.
