If you haven’t heard of the name Vivienne Hu, let me the first to introduce you to her. Originally from China, Vivienne Hu left her hometown at 18 years old to pursue the world of banking. By 2006, she was making a name for herself in investment banking, but things changed and she decided she wanted to be a designer. Valuing formal training, Vivienne completed a degree in Fashion Design at Parsons, the New School for Design. Since I also embarked on a new career path at 30, I find her story to be so inspiring.
In 2012, Vivienne Hu debuted her very first Spring/Summer collection. Ever since then, she has been making waves in the fashion industry. I stopped by her flagship store in Soho to take a look at her Fall 2015 and Resort 2016 Collections.
There is no doubt that Hu had the take-charge multi-faceted New York woman in mind with these collections. Whether it’s a Sunday brunch, a date on Broadway or a very important business meeting, Vivienne Hu has a look for the occasion. I was completely blown away by the sophistication, yet edge of the collections. The focal points on many of the pieces are asymmetric hemlines & necklines. There are dresses with geometric patterns and sexy cutouts, not to mention the chic intricate textures including suede and leather.
My favorite look from the Resort ’16 collection is a red A-line dress with beautiful black detailing on the side. I’m super excited to see what’s next from her! Visit the website at VivienneHu.com or stop by studio in Soho for a fitting.
