I’ve been writing professionally for over six years now, but I’ve wanted to write a book for as long as I can remember. Publishing numerous features and op-eds over the years, I’ve come to learn so much about journalism. Unfortunately, the two don’t go hand in hand. I have so many questions about publishing a book: Should I get an agent? How do I get an agent? Who are the “big five?” This is why I’m so excited about a new podcast series dissecting all of the publishing fundamentals.
In 2014, author Sarah Enni started a podcast entitled First Draft. The weekly podcast sparks entertaining conversations between authors, screenwriters, podcast hosts, essayists and other storytellers. But Enni also wanted to do a deep dive into book publishing, so she started Track Changes, a new mini-series where she and her guests talk candidly about the complex, wonderful world of publishing. Over nine episodes, Track Changes answers the surprisingly complex question: How does a book get published?
Listen to the summary of the podcast:
Publishing a book can be complex because there are many hurdles to overcome when trying to get your book published. But the fun doesn’t stop once it’s published. There are so many things to learn once your book actually gets published. From learning how to acquire an agent to book publicity, Enni chats with a host of accomplished book publicists, prominent literary agents, successful authors and book editors about every process of the book publishing experience.
Comprehensive and thoroughly enjoyable, it gives listeners the information they need to be more informed and prepared professional authors. With a surplus of information, Enni also created the Track Changes newsletter. The subscription-based weekly newsletter gets into more detail about the issues covered in the show. Sarah Enni is an accomplished author herself. Her debut young adult novel, “Tell Me Everything” was released by Scholastic in February 2019. I know it won’t be easy, but listening to just the first couple of episodes, I’m really inspired to start the publishing process.
