Lunchtime in Manhattan has become healthier with the opening of EXKis second location, on the corner of 28th Street and Madison Avenue. Tackling the dilemma of unhealthy meals, the quick and casual restaurant uses locally-produced seasonal ingredients in all the meals. Originating in Europe, EXKi opened their first New York location on Park Avenue South and was quickly embraced by New Yorkers.

As people walk through EXKi, they will notice the vast amount of choices they have. From sandwiches on home-baked baguettes to exotic salads and tasty soups, there is nothing that cannot satisfy afternoon cravings. One of their best dishes is inspired from the Moroccan culture, the Berber. Mixed with couscous, turmeric curry emulsion, raisins, cilantro and sunflowers seeds, the flavors blend together to create a dish that is hard to find in this area of the city. Another salad concoction that is sure to please the taste buds is the Orzo Kale, which is mixed with artichokes, pesto and red peppers.

To capture the delicious side of healthy eating, EXKi collaborated with Chef Galen Zamarra to make their seasonal dishes. One of the hot dishes that is a must try for any first time visitors is the La Toulon. Resembling a knish, the dish is mixed with goat cheese and tomatoes and is sure to be a favorite.

Satisfying people’s sweet tooth, EXKi offers a mouthwatering cheesecake that has a twist to it. Mixed with Greek yogurt, the cheesecake does not have cheese in it and is possibly one of the best desserts that can be both healthy and sweet. EXKi continues to surprise patrons with their innovative ways of creating quick, causal and healthy food for the always-on-the-go New Yorker.

Unlike some grab-and-go eateries in Manhattan, EXKi prepares all the meals early every morning and whatever is left over is donated to the homeless. Sticking to their core beliefs of using locally produced ingredients and products, they serve freshly-brewed organic coffee that comes from across the river in Long Island City. The produce and meat that is used for the meals comes from local farms from Pennsylvania to New Hampshire.

Perhaps the most surprising aspect of EXKi are the prices. Eating healthy can become expensive, but EXKi’s dishes are not only tastier, but also cheaper than the nearby eateries. Whether it is breakfast, lunch or just satisfying a craving, EXKi should be on everyone’s radar.
