I don’t know about you, but it’s been a long time since I’ve felt like a kid in a candy shop. That is, until I went to the recently opened Voilá Chocolat on the Upper West Side. Brought to New Yorkers by Peter Moustakerski, master chocolatier Christophe Toury (formerly of Jacques Torres), and chocolate scientist Dennis Teets, this experiential shop allows you to do more than just purchase their sweets.
The store allows customers to create their own chocolate — allowing both children and adults the chance to bring their inner kid to the forefront. Guests of the shop can craft delicious and decorated chocolates in 30-60 minute sessions. Using top-quality ingredients and techniques, each customer will have their own workstation and receive professional tips and techniques.
Patrons can choose from a variety of different chocolates to make — they can hand roll truffles, design your own chocolate bars, chocolate lollipops and dip your favorite fruits and nuts. No matter what treat you decide to make, every chocolate experience is highly customizable, starting with a choice of white, milk or dark chocolate and followed by a wide range of toppings. Chocolate experiences range in price from $35-$79 and special classes such as tempering chocolate, building chocolate sculptures and seasonal and holidays experiences will also be offered throughout the year. Additionally, group events and private parties can also be booked at Voilá Chocolat. Oh, and while you’re there, don’t forget to try their banana hot chocolate – it’s the bee’s knees!
So whether you want to stop by to purchase some of their fine chocolate or participate in a chocolate-making experience of your own, you will be glad that this innovative new spot opened up in the city. We are already planning our next trip!
