Malbec & Tango House on Lafayette Street is the place to be for Argentinian cuisine, wine, and of course, a fantastic tango performance. Recently added to the wine list are wines from Bodega Ruca Malen, a wonderful winery in Mendoza that excels in making unbelievable 2011 Malbec Reserva, 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon, 2011 Petit Verdot Reserva, and Torrontes.
The winemaker Pablo Cuneo, a charming man, is extremely passionate about the wines, which came through in these gorgeous vintages. Paired with some Argentinian tapas, guests enjoyed an array of empanadas, trout terrine, prosciutto and crostini, and potato pie, made by Chef Lucas Bustos.
The wines were absolutely beautiful, especially the Torrontes, which was not as aromatic as most Torrontes, but showed aromas of pineapple, peaches, and tropical fruits. On the palate, this wine is bright and full of fresh papaya and white flowers; simply gorgeous! As for the reds, the 2011 Malbec Reserva was strikingly beautiful and full of aromas of cherry and chocolate. The 2011 Petit Verdot Reserva screamed black fruit and hit you with a wonderful peppery finish.
Guests enjoyed a tango show after the wine tasting, which again, was spectacular. The dances and costumes are always changing which makes this spot a must go-to more often!
Malbec and Tango House is located at 428 Lafayette Street.
