When one has the chance to hike up their fishnets, sip on absinthe and relive one of the most shocking events to take place in American history, you don’t say no. From the creator of Speakeasy Dollhouse comes a new immersive theater experience that brings you back to the days of Prohibition. Cynthia von Buhler brings New Yorkers to the historic Players Club, where guests explore the events that led up to the assassination of President Lincoln. The production, The Brothers Booth, follows killer John Wilkes Booth and his brother Edwin, one of the most celebrated Shakespearean actors of his time, through their sibling rivalry and theories that may have lead to the death of the president.
Smartly, the Players Club was actually founded by Edwin Booth himself, where it served as his home. Today, the club serves as a reprieve for leaders in their professions as a spot to relax, mix and mingle. It serves as the perfect backdrop to the show, which features live jazz, burlesque performances, puppet shows and much more. The show, which is directed by Wes Granton, allows guests to sip on beverages, participate in a seance, meander through the halls and rooms of the space and even try their hand at poker with Mark Twain. Much like other immersive theater experiences, attendees are free to roam around and follow the performers as they make their way through the space. Upon arrival, each guest is given an identity and a task to achieve by night’s end.
Whether you are a truck driver delivering hooch for the evening’s festivities or a contortionist with the circus, your night is sure to be both lively and entertaining. Prior to your frivolous night you will receive e-mails with a storied history and details about the conspiracy theories surrounding the death of Lincoln. It is up to you to decide for yourself just what you think happened. If possible, this event was even more grand and fascinating than its predecessor, Speakeasy Dollhouse.
The next performance will take place on May 3rd at 8pm. Tickets are $75 for general admission or $125 for VIP, which includes exclusive access to additional rooms, scenes and cocktail service. Tickets can be purchased here.
