While Midtown isn’t quite known for it’s hopping bar scene, it sure has plenty of top notch restaurants to choose from. New to the scene is Greek restaurant, Nerai. Upon entering it is clear what kind of cuisine you can expect here, with white linen drapes and slightly nautical accents, one could mistake the interior for being located on Santorini.
The menu centers around seafood based dishes, like Shrimp Santorini, Grilled Octopus, and Diver Scallops, but also offers meat and veggie dishes such as the Greek Burger, Pork Belly, and Beet Salad. A fun and unusual offering for dinner diners is their seafood by the pound option, where customers can choose from a plethora of seafood to have prepared with latholemono and capers. We started our meal with Soutzoukakia, cretan meatballs with napolitan tomato sauce and whipped yogurt, which were quickly devoured. Of course we couldn’t stray away from their talked about seafood, so we tried the Shrimp Santorini and Ora King Salmon. The presentation was great and both dishes were delicious. The salmon was prepared in a unique way that was light and refreshing for a hot day.
The restaurant also offers interesting cocktail options, such as the Mediterraeneo, made with figuenza, mastiha, cucumber, cinnamon and lemon, or the Piperato, made with Suerte Reposado, chamomile, kiwi and pepperoncini.
Make sure to finish your meal with dessert. We recommend the Portokalopita, a light and airy orange cake that comes with bitter chocolate ice cream. It is the perfect end to any meal and definitely a highlight of dining at Nerai.
