DJ Jus Jack (aka Jack Trantides) has taken the EDM world by storm and rightfully so. His unique sound has caught the attention of top names such as David Guetta, Thomas Gold and Swedish House Mafia. The native New Yorker has recently collaborated with world famous DJ, Tiesto, on the song ‘Love is The Answer.’ The song will be the official theme song of Princess Madeleine of Sweden’s charity, World Childhood Foundation‘s new campagin, ThankYou, which launches at the end of the summer. All of the proceeds from the song will go towards the great cause. In honor of the new hit, Manhattan with a Twist talked with Jus Jack about his affiliation with the charity, what it’s like to work with Tiesto, and of course, his favorite spots to hang in good ol’ New York City.
How did you get involved with the World Childhood Foundation?
It was a collaborative effort between us, Tiesto, and Musical Freedom. The charity felt the track was a great fit with the foundation and it’s a great cause. We all decided to donate the sales to the charity and agreed to feature it as the theme song to their new campaign called Thank You.
What is it like collaborating with Tiesto?
It is definitely a surreal feeling. You realize that he is so successful because he understands the industry so well, and allows new artists opportunities to grow with him. It is an honor to be able to partner with him for this great initiative.
As a native New Yorker, can you tell us about some of your favorite city spots:
Fave restaurant?
My favorite restaurant in NY is Blue Ribbon. I love going there late for oysters and grilled calamari. Such an amazing little place.
Bar?
My favorite bar has to be Merc Bar. It’s been a great place to go and have a conversation and a cocktail for a long time for me.
Club?
My favorite club currently in NY is a tough question. I still don’t feel there has been a club opened that caters to dance music lovers of all likes. It’s a tough thing to accomplish. Owners have to keep their places profitable, but in my ideal world, there’s room for everyone to have fun, and of course there has to be great music. Cielo at one point was very close to accomplishing that, and they are carrying over at Output in Brooklyn to try again.
What are some of your favorite spots to DJ in New York? Why?
I love playing Pacha of course, as well as Marquee, Lavo, and Avenue. All really great sound systems. There is a great level of professionalism brought by the Tao Group and they always make sure everything is perfect.
What made you want to open up your own restaurants? And club?
I was really torn between growing up and still playing and making music, so I kind of compromised and opened a place where I could still play. The restaurants were more of me trying to create great places to eat. I love food, as well. I have been able to really make a really fun energetic place in my Astoria located Central. It has great food and an amazing party atmosphere. The staff really gets behind my set and we make sure everyone is having fun.
How does the city of New York influence your music?
I can say that everyday I am influenced by so many things and people throughout this city. It’s so multi-cultural and I get to experience amazing things. It’s the city that never sleeps, and I am definitely a product of that environment. It’s in my heart and I love everything about it. I’m inspired to do more because I see so much motivation in the city.
Drink of choice?
My drink of choice is Kettle Club with a splash of Sprite. No shots!
