Three cheers for Memorial Day! This weekend marks the official beginning of summer — a time to relax and enjoy life. And what better way to do that than with a cocktail in hand? Here are some of our favorite drinks to celebrate the holiday.
Kilbeggan Waterwheel (Courtesy of Darren McGettigan, Bar Beoga)
1 ¼ parts Kilbeggan Irish Whiskey
2 ½ parts pressed apple juice
1 ¼ parts pressed pineapple juice
6 fresh blueberries
1 dash of cherry bitters
1 bar spoon of white sugar

1 part JDK&Sons Crave Chocolate Mint Liqueur
1 part DeKuyper Strawberry Patch Liqueur
1 part DeKuyper Blue Curacao
Mound fine crushed ice in a cocktail glass using a large ice cream scoop. Pour each ingredient, one by one, in stripes to create a horizontal layering of the ingredients over the crushed ice. Serve with a demitasse spoon.
Cali Swizzle (Courtesy of Caliche Rum)
1 ½ oz. Caliche Rum
1 ½ oz. pineapple juice
1 oz. orange juice
½ oz. lime juice
½ oz. Velvet Falernum
lime wedge
In a cocktail shaker combine all ingredients, fill with ice and shake. Strain over ice in a highball glass. Garnish with a fresh lime wedge.
Hornitos Seize Your Margarita (Courtesy of Hornitos Tequila)
2 parts Hornitos Plata Tequila
¾ part lime juice
¾ part John DeKuyper & SonsTM O3 Premium Orange Liqueur
Muddle in 2 pieces of watermelon, jalapeno and cilantro
Pour ingredients into a shaker with ice. Shake, double strain into a rocks glass with ice, and garnish with a lime wedge.
EFFEN Fire Cracker (Courtesy Effen Vodka)
1 ½ parts EFFEN Vodka
¾ part JDK & Sons O3 Premium Orange Liqueur
¾ part pomegranate juice
¾ part lime juice
¾ part simple syrup
1 dash bitters
Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker over ice and shake. Strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with a lime wheel folded in half with a red cherry, held together by an American flag toothpick.
Sauza Mint Margito (Courtesy Sauza Tequila)
1 cup Sauza Blue Silver 100% Agave Tequila
2 cups club soda
¼ cup fresh Llime juice
1 bunch of fresh mint
3 tbsp. sugar
ice
In a small pitcher, muddle together the mint leaves, sugar and lime juice until they start to melt together. Add your Sauza Blue Silver. Fill 4 glasses with ice and pour cocktail mixture 3/4 of the way to the top of each glass. Fill each glass with club soda and garnish with a lime and an extra sprig of mint. (Serves 4)
