Poppin’ Bottles: What to Bring to Your Hostess with the Mostess

by

Thanksgiving is a mere few days away, with additional holidays right around the corner, and if you are spending it with friends or family, it’s customary to bring a thoughtful hostess gift. While plants and flowers are nice, they only last a few days. And random knick knacks can be cool, but mostly they just get in the way. Luckily, you can never go wrong with alcohol. There’s always occasion to drink it and let’s face it — some people totally need it when facing their family for the holidays. Check out some of our favorites that are sure to impress your host.

Nothing  denotes a celebration quite like some bubbly. Prosecco DOC is very versatile and can pair with your holiday appetizers, main course and even dessert. La Gioiosa‘s Prosecco DOC Treviso Spumante ($13) is a sparkling wine that is fruity, with hints of flower on the palate. It is made with 100% Glera grapes and is soft, well-balanced and great as an aperitif. Another option is Villa Sandi‘s Prosecco DOC Treviso Il Fresco ($23), which is a dry, fresh Prosecco, with hints of golden apple and flowers.

cutty_sark_prohibition

If you want more bang for your buck, Cutty Sark Prohibition Edition ($31.99 ) is a new 100 proof blended Scotch whisky that surely packs a punch. The whisky is brewed in hand-selected American oak casks, which give it subtle flavors of vanilla and citrus. Don’t let the high proof deter you from trying it, though — this whisky has a nice, smooth finish and is delicious neat over ice, or blended in a cocktail.

anna_de_codorniu Anna de Codorníu is a wonderful sparkling wine that is well-known for being the first cava to include Chardonnay. Both their Brut NV and Brut Rosé NV have gotten makeovers just in time for the holidays – with a festive new look that will have your host smiling. Both wines retail for an affordable $14.99. The brut is comprised of 70% chardonnay and 30% parellada grapes and has tiny bubbles with hints of pineapple and citrus. The rosé, comprised of 70% pinot noir and 30% chardonnay, is nice and light on the palate, with hints of red fruits and green apple. Both make for great aperitifs! g'vine_gin Gin never goes out of style. G’vine Gin ($39.99) is a modern-style rendition of the spirit that is infused with the vine flower along with nine botanicals, including ugni blanc grapes, juniper, coriander, cassia bark, licorice, cubeb berries, nutmeg, ginger, green cardamom and lime. This makes for a truly unique, floral gin that will liven up any cocktail you use it in. Bring a bottle of this baby to your holiday fête and you’ll be the hit of the party.

Teeling Small Batch 750ml Whiskey

Teeling Small Batch Whiskey ($52.61) does things a little differently. The small batch whiskey is aged in old Flor de Cana rum barrels, giving it an added hint of sweetness that is unique to Irish whiskey. The whiskey is bottled at an impressive 46% abv and has hints of vanilla and spice with a woody finish. Any fan of good whiskey will love adding this bottle to their collection.
