The vodka martini is one of the most iconic cocktails around the country. There’s this sophistication and prestige you feel when ordering one…at least, I always feel classy when I order one. To celebrate World Martini Day, elit Vodka decided to pay homage to classic cocktail in style.
Held at the posh Marmara Hotel’s Penthouse, elit by Stolichnaya launched a pop-up martini lab where guests were treated to a variety of martinis, like Cloud 18 – a martini created using dry ice, giving it a smoky allure. Extra dirty with blue cheese olives is my martini of choice and I was able to indulge at the elit create-your-own station. Hor d’oeuvres were passed and much to our surprise, a made-to-order sushi table from Nobu.
So what makes elit by Stolichnaya so elite? The grains that make up elit consist of a blend of winter wheat, spring wheat, and rye, all from the Tambov region of Russia (which we all know is the country from which the best vodkas come). All Stoli Vodka is distilled three times and filtered four times, but elit gets a fifth freeze filtration (-18 degrees Celsius, passed through an ionized carbon filter), inspired by the methods of the Russian tsars. The nose is slightly alcoholic and grainy, but the palate is smooth and has a lovely, long, sweet finish. A rooftop with a view of Manhattan, sushi, and elit by Stolichnaya was the perfect way to celebrate the iconic cocktail.
