With an apt amount of well-known steakhouses scattered about New York City, it can be all too easy to overlook great alternatives, such as Desmond’s Steakhouse. The restaurant, located in Midtown West, just outside of Times Square, rivals popular joints such as Wolfgang’s, Smith & Wollensky and Peter Luger.
Make your way up their tiled staircase into the vast space that is Desmond’s. The fine wooden and stone walls, along with leather banquette seating and white linen tablecloths give off an old-school vibe suggesting that the place has been around for decades. However, only a year and a half old, Desmond’s is proving it’s a spot to be reckoned with.
Their beef, which is USDA prime aged in their dry aging room, is unbelievably tender, not to mention both juicy and flavorful. They have plenty of meats to choose from, from ribeye and filet mignon to lamb chops and short ribs. Not to mention, they also have an impressive selection of seafood, such as lobster, tuna, salmon and an array of shellfish. And although they offer a selection of sauces, the meat is so flavorful on its own, you might find yourself passing on the poivre.
While their menu is definitely geared towards the carnivores of the world, if you find yourself dining with a vegetarian (blasphemy!) they will gladly whip up a dish that meets their needs. Don’t skimp on the appetizers and sides, either. With options like crab cakes, sizzling Canadian bacon slab and lobster mac & cheese, you really can’t go wrong. And dessert is sure to satisfy your sweet tooth with items such as tiramisu, creme brulee and homemade bread pudding.
If that’s not enough, Desmond’s Steakhouse also features live music six nights a week, which only enhances your dining experience. So if you find yourself amongst the bright lights of Times Square, make sure to venture over to Desmond’s get your steak fix.
