Manhattan with a Twist was invited to the famous Contemporary Week at Saks Fifth Avenue in New York. This year, Saks Fifth Avenue partnered with Nudie Jeans, and their event featured the local New York band The Bowery Riots.
The Swedish denim label Nudie Jeans combines ethics, responsibility and style. The social conscience label has been 100% organic since 2006. The majority of the organic denim used by Nudie Jeans is certified by GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard). Jeans can be repaired over and over again. But eventually you reach the point when it is time to move on. All good things come to an end. But a pair of worn out jeans can be used to make something else. Recycling reduces waste, saves energy, and reduces the consumption of raw materials.
Nudie Jeans’ integrity doesn’t end with the environment. Nudie’s membership with Fair Wear Foundation is a key element ensuring that everyone across the production chain works under fair conditions. Fair Wear Foundation is an independent, non-profit organization striving to improve working conditions in the textile industry.
While ethics are very important in running a clothing line, most of us are attracted to the esthetics of the clothing. When referring to jeans, the fit is definitely one of the most important factors. Nudie offers over ten different fit styles. For the Spring 2014 Collection we are seeing a more romantic, more tailored theme. Nudie put focus on the craftmanship and the details, and they added a selvage kilt to tie it all together. This collection also welcomes two new jean fits, a skinny, tight fit and a regular fit.
Of course, fashion and music are the perfect collaboration, so the evening ended with a spectacular performance by The Bowery Riots. The Bowery Riots are a three piece rock ‘n’ roll band who take their name from the turn of the century gang The Bowery Boys and the 1849 Astor Riot. The spring season is the perfect excuse for a new pair of jeans. For more information on Nudie Jeans, visit nudiejeans.com or Saksfifthavenue.com.
