Shooting Abe: A Tale of Sibling Rivalry

Sibling rivalry takes on a whole new meaning in Shooting Abe. Directed by Eli Taylor and written by Charles Gershman, Shooting Abe is story about two brothers who know less about each other than they think. The riveting show explores the clash in one family between the Jewish tradition and liberated creative expression.

The drama starts when Abe crashes a private nude male photo shoot that his brother Shlomi is doing. Nude? Yes, there’s nudity. Shlomi is less than thrilled that his brother has invaded his place of business, but more importantly, his privacy. At first the argument is just your typical sibling spat, even with Abe and the nude model, who is a pro baseball player, taking cracks at one another. Abe doesn’t seem to care for the model’s blonde hair or perfect body. Or maybe, he has a problem with Shlomi’s admiration for the model? Whatever the reason, the argument gets darker when Abe seems to question Shlomi’s honesty and loyalty to his family and faith. There’s no doubt that these two brothers are walking two different paths. The argument soon escalates with a very emotional twist.

What I love about this show is that every character seems to have that relatable characteristic of having something to prove, even the baseball player. Part comedy, part drama, Shooting Abe takes a look at our struggle between maintaining individuality and our need to please and be accepted by our loved ones.
