So the Covid pandemic isn’t quite over, but there’s light at the end of the tunnel. As restrictions ease, and more people become vaccinated, we’re that much closer to gathering and drinking with our friends and family this summer. Whether you’re drinking wine by the pool, grill, or at a rooftop dinner, these sparkling wines will help you celebrate the summer season.
So we all know the name, but everyone’s favorite California sparkling wine is now rocking a new look. It’s been 60 years since the iconic brand has changed its label. I’m told by Pauline Lhote, VP winemaker at Chandon, “the newly designed labels add to the identity of the brand.” The new label is chic, but still very eye-catching. With vibrant bubbles and a crisp finish, Chandon is always a popular choice so it’s perfect for your summer gatherings.
Michèle Capdepon Blanquette de Limoux
Produced in a small appellation named Limoux, this sparkling wine is a blend of Mauzac, Chardonnay, and Chenin grape varieties. The name “Blanquette” means the wine was blended with a majority of the Mauzac grape variety, which are mainly grown in the south of France. Limoux is located within Languedoc, the largest region producing wine within the country. Languedoc is producing stunning sparkling wines that are of great value, mainly because they are traditional method sparkling wines (second fermentation takes place in the bottle like Champagne), but considerably less expensive. Perfect as an aperitif, this sparkling wine is bright and refreshing with notes of pineapple and green apple on the palate.
Miguel Torres Estelado País Brut Rosé
While Chile is a new world wine region, the country has been growing grapes for centuries. Chilean wines are terroir-driven and diverse. Produced entirely from País, this sparkling rosé has become one of my favorites to pair with food because the grape is so versatile. Pais is a red wine grape that produces expressive rosés with aromas of red citrus fruit. Enjoy with softer cheeses or grilled burgers and chicken.
Faire La Fête Crémant de Limoux
This is another great sparkling wine from the Languedoc region. With delicate bubbles and aromas of apple and lemon, it’s comprised of a blend of Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, and Pinot Noir grapes. This French sparkling pairs beautifully with lighter foods like grilled vegetables and seafood, or slightly heartier dishes like grilled pork chops.
