With New York Fashion Week in full swing, it’s clear to everyone in the city that anything resembling a normal day has stopped and fashion, parties and debauchery has taken its place. Style 360 Fashion Week kicked off its tenth successful year in New York earlier this week. Over the years it has become a premier destination for top fashion designers to collaborate with big brands, celebrities, media and more. Hosting runway shows by day and parties by night, Style 360 has truly made a name for itself during the busiest week of fashion and is now taking place at the new Metropolitan West.
Monday night Style 360 started things off in style (naturally) with their opening celebration honoring their 10 year anniversary. The party was held at The Empire Hotel Rooftop and was hosted by none other than the fabulous Carmen Electra. The party was packed to the hilt and we totally understand why — famous faces made appearances all evening long, including Sean Lowe and Catherine Giudici Lowe, Brandon Jones, Jessica Hart and more. DJ Mandy Jiroux kept the crowd entertained as they enjoyed drinks provided by sponsors of Style 360, Cointreau cocktails, Bottega Rose sparkling wine and MYX Fusions Moscato by Nicki Minaj and Mona Scott-Young.
Manhattan with a Twist was lucky enough to score a coveted interview with the hostess with the mostess, Carmen Electra, who we chatted with about music, fashion and more!
MWAT: Tell us a bit about what you’re doing now — your new songs, album, everything.
CE: I feel so lucky and so blessed to be able to get that chance to get back out there and make music. “I Like It Loud” was the first single. I literally went in and recorded the song and the next thing I’m in rehearsals…the first show was on Wendy Williams. I just can’t believe everything’s moving so fast. The second single we put out was “Werq.” So I’ve been doing one off shows here and there and then “Around the World” I’m premiering tonight. I’m serious about it but I look at it as a hobby, something that I’m just really lucky to get back into. It doesn’t feel like work to me. I want to learn, and I am learning as I go. There’s no better high than being on stage.
MWAT: Do you like it better than acting?
CE: It’s different. When I first came to LA I started as a trained dancer and that’s what I really wanted to do and then I got signed to Capital Records and soon after that signed at Paisley Park Records with Prince. So from then on it was music and then I remember when I decided to move from Minneapolis to LA everything changed. Everyone said, “you should get into acting,” but I was really shy. I kept pushing myself and pushing myself and going to auditions, getting rejected. That’s what it takes, you just have to be persistent. So I’m just really excited about this new chapter in my life. I’m single, I’m dating a little here and there, and just having fun.
MWAT: What are you most looking forward to during New York Fashion Week?
CE: I love so many different designers for different reasons, but Vivienne Tam was gorgeous yesterday — such vibrant colors and patterns, I want to go on vacation after this. I’m excited for The Blonds, as well, because it’s such a production. I live for them.
MWAT: In your closet, what can’t you get enough of right now?
CE: Oh my god, what do I keep buying over and over again? Well, a bunch of things. I’m obsessed with rings, I like layering rings. Also, I’m obsessed with rock t-shirts. And high tops!
Since Monday night, Style 360 has been keeping the pace steady with their fashion shows and after-parties. Stay tuned for more info about them all!
