Summer Spritz – Men’s Fragrances

by

Fragrances, like clothing, should be rotated and changed with each new season. The weather and one’s skin type affect how a fragrance smells on the body. Fall and Winter are suited for heavier scents because of the dryer air and frigid temperatures, while Spring and Summer should focus more on lighter fragrances, due to the rising temperatures. Moreover, fragrance is intensely personal and can be linked to our mood, attitude, a nostalgic memory and even our personal identity. While there are thousands of fragrances out there, below are some of my favorites I come back to again and again.

Hermes

1)   Hermes – Concentré D’Orange Verte
Launched:  2004
Description: Orange lovers, unite. There’s no need for a weekend excursion to Florida for sniffing the orange groves–you’ll only have to spritz yourself with this to be immersed in bitter orange peels, basil, patchouli and cedar. The only caveat is that this fragrance needs to be spritzed regularly as its silage is quite low so spritz excessively!
Buy: $170 (3.3 ounces)

Prada

2)   Prada – Amber Pour Homme
Launched: 2006
Description: This cologne smells like very expensive barber soap and I’m perfectly fine with that. Though light on the amber, it’s still robust and lingers on for hours after application with notes of vanilla, tonka bean and geranium.  It also comes in an aftershave, which is perfect for those days you just want something a little lighter.
Buy: $60 (1.7 ounces)

Armani

3)   Armani – Acqua Di Gio
Launched: 1996
Description: One of the most critically and commercially successful men’s fragrances in the past few decades, Acqua Dio Gio is a classic. Though it may be ubiquitous on frat boys and dapper gentlemen alike and has sparked countless imitators, for those days you want something fresh (bergamot, tangerine, neroli) and are unsure of what to wear, this is it.
Buy: $62 (1.7 ounces)

Chanel

4)   Chanel – Sycamore
Launched: 2008
Description: Vetiver is the main note in this powerhouse. It’s initial strong grassy smell winds down eventually, revealing citrus, tobacco and a whiff of smoked woods.
Buy: $130 (2.5 ounces)
