Need a break from Sunday football? You’re not the only one. With the temperatures creeping down uncomfortably low and the winter holidays inching closer, watching men in tights run around in the snow somehow seems less appealing. The Hyatt Union Square New York has the answer to the lull in your upcoming Sundays with their wreath decorating classes. However, for those who still can’t get enough of those TDs, the classes are only an hour long, so you can be back in front of the big screen before the Jets even score (if they ever score).
Open to the public, the Hyatt’s wreath arranging classes are guided by experts from Michael Gaffney’s New York School of Flower Design. Participants enter into the hotel’s lovely downstairs space where they are greeted with a mug full of warm cider to get them in the holiday spirit (if they aren’t already). Sitting amongst heaps of cedar, pine, balsam, berries, pine cones and roses fills the room with the scent of Christmas before class even begins. The experts will guide you through the simple techniques used to create stunning wreaths and then they will hand the reigns over to you, where you will be able to craft your own custom wreath to take home with you.
Those who aren’t so craftsy need not fear that they will leave empty handed or with a pile full of pinecones, it’s easier than you might expect! Upcoming classes take place from 2-3pm on December 7th and December 14th. Sessions cost $40 to the general public and are free to hotel guests.
