Back in September Manhattan with a Twist interviewed Phoenix Keating, an outstanding Australian designer on the verge of debuting his first line in the United States. Last week, we went to check out his Spring/Summer 2014 collection, titled ‘Vaudevillian,’ in person, as Keating walked us through each piece and explained his inspiration. Although designers always have an inspiration for a collection, Keating goes one step further and has an entire story behind his — a tragic love story that takes place in both the future and the past, between an emotionally-intelligent android and a human.
As can be expected with such a background story to the collection, is an ultra-modern and futuristic collection, as inspired by the 1920s. Combining synched waists and long hemlines from the 1920s with riveted metal sheets, silver leather and sheer organza brings such a new perspective to the fashion world. We can picture the foremost trendsetters flocking to wear this garb. We immediately fell in love with both the charismatic designer and his collection. We are keeping our fingers crossed to see it on a runway, where it would make for a wonderful and dramatic show. Prices for the collection range from $220-$990 for apparel and $150-$800 for accessories. We know that Phoenix Keating will feel the New York City love!
