Move over blow outs, braids are the new quick fix to your hair woes. Pierre Michel Salon, located in Midtown East, hosted an evening of glamour, showing us how to create the top three braiding trends on the scene right now. The halo, fishtail and waterfall braids are all sophisticated and fun ‘dos that are often seen on celebrities, but thanks to the stylists at Pierre Michel, you can now rock them yourself. Stop by the salon to get your hair done professionally, with their intricate braids starting at $75.

In the meantime, we got the low-down on how to do a fishtail braid from the stylists at the salon.

1. Secure your hair in a ponytail (this keeps all your hair in place). Separate ponytail into two equal sections.

2. Take small piece of hair from underneath one section and wrap it around from the outside to the inside. The small piece should end up underneath the second section of hair. Repeat on the other section of hair. Continue all the way down.

3. Once braid is complete, remove ponytail hair-tie. Loosen strands with your fingers for messier look.

Other hot looks from the event included the halo braid and waterfall braid, as well as other braiding creations. What’s so great about braiding as an alternative for a blow out, is that they are weather friendly and last a long time. During hot summer months, you’ll want your hair off your back with something that is not only cute, but functional. You won’t have to keep fixing your hair all day long and once you’ve rocked it for a day, you can take out your braid(s) for a beachy, wavy look. We also got a sneak peek at what is sure to be summer’s go-to hairstyle, the t-shirt hair wrap. While New York’s top beauty experts had their hair and make-up done, we also enjoyed cocktails from ByeJoe and ice cream from Tipsy Scoop.
