It’s an established fact that people are weird. And sometimes, just sometimes, you feel like the weirdest in the bunch. (Mostly when social interactions are involved.)
Anyone who’s ever felt awkward at a house party, had an embarrassing run-in with an unrequited crush or made uncertain eye-contact with that weird guy on the subway (don’t deny that that’s all of you) will want to make their way to Videology in Williamsburg on May 8th at 7pm for a Talk Shows screening of performance artist Lucy Cottrell’s newest videos.
Cottrell’s videos (she wrote, directed and acts in all of them) showcase how bizarre social interactions really can be. The characters she plays, often riffs on herself, tread a fine line between the familiar and totally strange. With high energy and an affinity for the absurd, the videos aim to expose the ways people shed social awkwardness and come out of themselves.
“My videos are about intimacy and all the wonderful strangeness that comes with meeting people and connecting,” Cottrell says, “so it’s very exciting to share them with a wider audience at a live event.”
The screening will include five short videos and one longer (intriguingly titled “Fruit Loop Porno”). The event is free and there will be a cash bar.
