As we’ve noticed, fashion is known to work in cycles; great trends are always inevitably resurrected and put back onto the runways and racks. It is now once again, the era of grunge. With 90’s roots tied to bands such as Alice in Chains, and all things ripped, flannel & rugged, grunge has made a comeback like never before. It’s not only a trend, but also a lifestyle to many. Since grunge is so diverse, and the articles are majority unisex, both men and women alike can have this look easily with a few basic pieces:
1) The Beanie: This piece isn’t just for winter days; the beanie is a key piece in many grunge outfits. It’s versatile, it’s convenient on bad hair days, and it’s effortless, which is what the grunge look is all about.

2) The Flannel: Worn tied around the waist as an accessory, or open and over a light t-shirt in a Nirvana-esque style, the flannel is another great choice to incorporate into your 90’s inspired outfit.

3) A pair of DIY Ripped Jeans: No outfit is complete without a pair of ripped jeans, and although you can purchase them this way, I feel a personal touch really captures the essence of the look. Grab your oldest pair of Levi’s and some sandpaper and scissors, and let your inner designer come out. Bonus points if there’s bleach stains!

4) The Caterpillar Work Boot:
One of the main items I’ve noticed making a hit in the grunge world overseas is the Caterpillar Work Boot. Caterpillar is a huge company, selling to over 150 countries worldwide and is known here in the U.S. for their dependable work boots. They do have a continuously growing lifestyle collection for both men and women, but since the grunge & street-wear age has been revived, people all over the UK have been incorporating the well-known “Colorado” boot into their everyday outfits. The original boot, which is steel toed, first debuted in the UK in 1991, and has proved rugged and durable with the test of time. The boot is available in colors such as black, brown and honey, and features the brand’s signature yellow and black logo, welt, and strong suede/leather materials, proven to last. The boot has even caught the eye of notable celebrities such as Rita Ora, who has been spotted wearing it with several different outfits, showing its many-sided styles. If you want the look, Caterpillar also has the American version of the “Colorado” which is the “Second shift”, allowing you to make it all your own. To join the trend, the boots are available here.
