Local New York City designer, Abraham Cruz, showcased his new Spring/Summer 2014 collection at Manuela during New York Fashion Week. The designer founded Isaac Cruz, a New York-based design house in 2012. Cruz was formally trained as an artist at the Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art and uses the techniques he learned as an artist in his clothing.
The Isaac Cruz SS14 collection takes inspiration from the artwork of Henri Matisse, combining softness with structure. The fun and vibrant collection juxtaposes the softness of Matisse’s early paintings with the modern paper cutouts he created later on in his career. The result is amazing — Cruz has fun, young silhouettes in light colors and whites, as well as more structural, hard darker pieces. Cruz states, “As an artist by trade, I take my inspiration from the great artists who understood the nuances of softness, color and shape. This collection also takes inspiration from my Nicaraguan heritage.”
We were really impressed by the Isaac Cruz presentation and have dubbed it as one of our favorite collections shown at Fashion Week! The collection was versatile, fresh, and hip and we can’t wait to get our hands on some of these pieces!
