New York City loves its speakeasies, and so do we. It never gets old finding your way to a hidden location and drinking strong cocktails amidst 1920s decor. Project 1919 launched earlier this week, a speakeasy pop-up located inside Mulberry Project. The three month long pop-up is named for the year Prohibition began in the U.S. and is located behind a secret door in the restaurant.
The small, exclusive space is dimly lit, with art by local New Yorkers, and seating for its guests. The curated cocktail menu ($15 per cocktail) was crafted by renowned mixologists Sam Ziar and Jasper Soffer and focuses on dark blends with barrel-aged spirits. The menu will feature 10 classic cocktails, as well as 10 original cocktails, along with a daily ‘Bartender’s Choice’ cocktail. We loved their bourbon cocktail, entitled Hymie Weiss, comprised of bourbon becherovka, maple syrup and smoked salt, as well as their creative rye cocktail, George “Bugs” Moran, comprised of rye, fig infused Cocchi Bianco, and Balsamic.
To get in to this exclusive destination, call the Mulberry Project for a reservation. Project 1919 will be open Monday through Saturday from 5pm until late. Cheers to the end of Prohibition.
Project 1919 is located at 149 Mulberry Street.
