If you’re anything like me, one of the biggest reasons you put off appointments (or avoid them altogether) is because of the hassle of making the time to get there and back. It’s so difficult to fit a trip to the doctor into our busy schedules, what with the transportation time required, the duration of the actual visit itself, then the time it takes getting back (not to mention the amount of time you spend in the waiting room). It can steal an entire chunk of your day from you, and time is something I don’t think any of us really like to waste.
Luckily for us, we are one step closer to avoiding such inconveniences thanks to the app/website YoDerm. This mobile app and website allows people to see a dermatologist for acne treatment without ever leaving the house…or getting out of bed, for that matter. You can get a full consultation, treatment, and prescriptions all from the comfort of your own home! No longer will you have to worry about setting aside valuable free time; you can use YoDerm anywhere while doing anything.
Here is how it works: first, you create an account and select a doctor. They have an exclusive group of board-certified dermatologists to choose from, depending on your state. You have the ability to comfortably browse through these doctors and choose which one seems like the best fit for you. Then, you fill out your medical history, including past dermatological treatments and medical preferences (confidentially, of course). After that, you upload a few photos of the section of your skin you would like to address. Basically any type of photo is accepted, including from a webcam, smartphone, or digital camera. This way, dermatologists can see for themselves firsthand your skin type and skin issues. Doubtful that a doctor can diagnose your acne problem just by looking at picture? Don’t be! Acne is a visual condition and doctors often diagnose it and decide on treatments from looking at photos. The whole consultation costs only $59, and does not require insurance (although, if you do have insurance, it could be used to cover the prescription costs). At the moment, the only concern YoDerm is offering treatment for is acne, although in the future there could very well be more available.
After you finish submitting your information and pictures, within 24 hours you will receive your very own personal treatment plan and any prescriptions will be sent to your nearest pharmacy. You have the ability to direct message with your doctor at any time if you have any questions or concerns. If you’re unsure about anything during the process, before and after, there are helpful representatives available on their website to answer any questions.
And that’s about it. All done and set without ever having to take a step out of your front door. Going to the dermatologist was never so easy.
